A lovely Mettach beer stein by Villeroy & Boch of Germany, depicting three scenes: A hunting scene, a man in his house, and a priest talking to a girl. The image painted on the porcelain lid is of a goblet with grapes. The quote at the base of the stein translates roughly as," To good health, the air is fresh and pure..." This beautiful .5 liter stein retains its original pewter thumb hinge, which is in the shape of an eagle with the United States inscribed, and is in excellent condition.
The stein bears the incised Mettlach abbey mark above the form number "2537" and the date mark of "00" for the year 1900.
