A lovely Mettach beer stein by Villeroy & Boch of Germany, depicting the courting of Siegfried, the legendary character from the third opera "Der RIng des Nibelungen" by Richard Wagner. The image painted on the porcelain lid is of a musical horn. This beautiful .5 liter stein retains its original pewter thumb hinge which is in the shape of a cherub with a drinking goblet and is in excellent condition.
The stein bears the incised Mettlach abbey mark above the form number "2402" and the date mark of "00" for the year 1900.
