A wonderful Mettach beer stein by Villeroy & Boch of Germany, adorned with a German quote, the accoutrements of a Viking warrior, and topped by a finial of a viking helmet. This beautiful 1 liter stein retains its original pewter thumb hinge and is in excellent condition. The front of the Stein reads "Die Vater habens uns gelehert wie man die vollen humpen leert" which translates as " The Fathers taught us how to empty a full mug."
The stein bears the incised Mettlach abbey mark above the form number "285" and the date mark of "89" for the year 1889.
