A wonderful Mettach beer stein by Villeroy & Boch of Germany, depicting literature of the architectural trade. The image painted on the porcelain lid are of drafting tools. This beautiful .5 liter stein retains its original zoomorphic pewter thumb hinge which is in the shaoe of an owl and is in excellent condition.
The stein bears the incised Mettlach abbey mark above the form number "2001" and the date mark of "00" for the year 1900.
