  • Origin:
This jovial tavern scene was created by famed Mettlach artist Christian Warth, for Villeroy & Boch of Germany. Christian Warth stands as one of the best-known Mettlach stein artists. Though little is known about his life, records show that he worked on copper engravings and stoneware models for Villeroy & Boch from 1854 to 1892. He is known for creating many of the company's most iconic steins during his tenure, all of which are characterized by lively, colorful scenes that are most sought-after by Mettlach collectors today. This stein is in excellent condition and is marked "1/2L" capacity. Signed "C. Warth."

The stein bears the incised Mettlach abbey mark above the form number "1403" and the date mark of "96" for the year 1896.
