The Greek god Apollo rides his Chariot of the Sun across the sky in this phenomenal Meissen porcelain group. Designed by Johann Joachim Kaendler between 1772-1773, this figure depicts the Greco-Roman god of light and music, seated in a chariot and commanding a team of glorious horses. Set upon a base of roiling clouds and flashes of lightning, this incredible group is one of the most stunning mythological pieces ever created. Features Meissen crossed swords mark in blue underglaze.
