A magnificent three-piece clock set featuring fabulous bronze sculptures by A. B. Nadaud set on rouge marble bases. The central figure, Penelope, stands unwinding her loom, flanked by two classical maidens. Doré bronze mounts adorn the marble bases. Nadaud (1835-1889) was a recognized French sculptor who debuted his works at the Paris Salon in 1861.

This stunning clock was designed by Nadaud with an ingenious three-dimensional motion, improving the accuracy of the magnificent time keeper. The continuously rotating loom, held by Penelope, is driven by a suspension mechanism hidden inside the elaborate, bronze-mounted marble base. In addition, Nadaud included a partially-skeletonized, bell striking movement. Conical clocks remain among the most accurate time keepers of their period. All original, working examples such as this are quite scarce and highly sought after by collectors.
