Limoges has been one of Europe's largest centers of "fire arts" - porcelain, enamel and glass - since the 12th century. Enamel being the oldest of these crafts, it was first introduced to the city thanks to its position as a stopping place for pilgrims en route to Spain. After enjoying immense popularity during the Renaissance, Limoges enamels again achieved considerable popularity at the end of the 19th century, a reputation that lasted through the Art Deco movement. This beautiful box exhibits the exceptional artistry achieved by this world-renowned company. Such works are rarely seen and highly prized among collectors.
