This intriguing automobile mascot by René Lalique was made to crown the hood of a luxurious automobile. Entitled "Perche," this particular opalescent yellow glass figure is extremely rare, since most Lalique mascots were made of clear or "white" glass. The privileged few who owned a motorcar during the '20s and '30s were eager to personalize their prized possessions, and the distinctive glass mascots by Lalique were truly revolutionary. Once in place, these mascots could also be lit in a spectrum of colors by a light filter in the base, set above a light bulb, which would spin as the car gained speed.
