An internal light source allows this stunning pair of alabaster columns to literally glow. Carved in a hexagonal Doric form with beautiful granite tops, these fabulous columns can serve as display pedestals, or as stunning sculptures in their own right. Alabaster has been used in the decorative arts since antiquity, from ancient Egypt to the Far East. Its translucent quality, beautiful patterning and workable hardness lend the material to be used in everything from intricate sculptures and religious artifacts to architectural fixtures. Many pieces of alabaster were found in the tombs of the ancient Egyptians, including a large, ornate perfume found in the grave of Tutankhamen on display at the Cairo Museum.
