Oil on canvas

British artist Arthur John Elsley dutifully captures the free spirit and innocence of childhood in this magnificent oil on canvas. The artist truly exceeds expectations in the current work entitled Home Team, giving proof to why he is considered the preeminent painter of children. In this painting, a group of children spend a worry-free spring day outdoors relishing in their world of make-believe as they "drive" their horse-drawn carriage through the countryside with their canine companion tagging along for the ride. As evidenced by this elegant work, Elsley utilized vivid colors and a keen eye for detail to compose the most nostalgic and touching tributes to childhood to ever be created.

Elsley is one of the most important and influential artists of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He captured international attention with his charming paintings of children with animals, and his idyllic images have become synonymous with the late Victorian and Edwardian eras. Indeed, this extraordinary artist enjoyed tremendous popularity and his paintings were often used for advertisements and in magazines. His work is even more amazing considering he was severely near-sighted and often used opera glasses to see his models.
