Diamonds
This extraordinary diamond ring features one of the world's true treasures. A glorious, emerald-cut, Internally Flawless diamond takes center stage, weighing 4.01 carats and graded by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) as being internally flawless, D-color, and Type IIa. A key characteristic of diamonds which hail from the famous, and extinct, Golconda mines of India, the Type IIa rating means that there is no trace of nitrogen (the element that gives diamonds color) in the diamond. The Type IIa classification also means that this diamond appears to be a full two shades whiter than a typical D-color diamond. Accented by two baguette diamonds and set in a platinum setting by the incomparable Harry Winston, this diamond is simply one of the finest in the world.
Known as the "Ultimate Diamond," Golconda diamonds are the purest of all, possessing levels of clarity unrivaled by any other diamond. Universally accepted as the finest diamonds in the world, Golconda gems are extremely scarce. The name "Golconda" comes from the ancient city of India where the diamond trade flourished in the 18th century due to the extraordinary quality of the gems unearthed from its mines. These mines are now extinct, a fact which makes these diamonds so rare that many gemologists have never seen one. Universally accepted as the preeminent diamonds in the world, Golcondas have been coveted and owned by the world's royal houses. In fact, the Hope Diamond, the Agra Diamond, the Darya-i-Nur in Iran and the Koh-i-Noor (part of the British Crown Jewels) are all Golconda diamonds.
The House of Harry Winston is known for dramatic, unique designs. Founded in 1932, the jeweler continues to create spectacular designs for celebrities and discerning clients around the world.
