A wonderfully nostalgic and rare Hammond No. 12 typewriter by the Hammond Typewriter Company of New York. This model was the first to allow the user to see what was being typed as it was typed. It utilized a first-of-its-kind "vibrating ribbon" which raised the ribbon when a key was struck and lowered when the key was released, placing the written work in full view. This particular Hammond model was made with an "ideal" or curved keyboard, and retains its original wooden frame and protective case. The innovative advancements seen in this Hammond typewriter would be used for future mechanisms well into the 1970s.
The typewriter bears the Hammond seal on its wooden base and the serial number "66552" incised into the mechanism.
