This lovely gold box contains a musical carillon that is activated by a button set into the base. It is from Hanua, Germany and is engraved with musical instruments, including a sitar, and elaborate foliage on the lid. The interior is rose gold and contains a lovely period key. It is marked as 18 karat and bears the makers mark CK. Containers like this were among the most fashionable luxury items from the 16th to the 19th centuries, and were often exchanged as gifts, especially among gentlemen. To find an example of such excellent quality is truly rare.
