A wonderful George III silver epergne crafted by George Ashforth of Sheffield. Designed in the neoclassical manner, the epergne features five hand-cut crystal bowls suspended by an intricately engraved silver body tapering to paw feet. Sterling silver works created in Sheffield, at a time when most artisans were concentrating their attentions on the innovative Sheffield plate, are quite rare, especially one exhibiting the beauty and proportion of this elegant epergne.
