This outstanding George III mahogany mechanical desk is equipped with a leather writing surface and fully-fitted suite of drawers and compartments, which pops up when the desk is opened. Inspired by military campaign furniture, which was designed to be folded, packed, and easily transported by traveling armies, this desk also features bronze pulls and casters. The expansion of the British Empire during the 18th and 19th centuries resulted in the production of campaign furnishings that proved to be stylish, practical, and some of the most fascinating pieces ever created. Circa 1790 40" wide x 21" deep x 34" high; (with back part popped-up and lide open height is 51 1/2 inches).
