This handsome antique is a uniquely designed George III mechanical campaign desk crafted of beautiful mahogany. Campaign furnishings were designed to be easily transported from one place to another, for they were folded up, packed and carried by traveling armies. The expansion of the British Empire during the 18th and 19th centuries resulted in the production of campaign furnishings that proved to be both stylish and practical, and some of the most fascinating pieces ever created. This desk is no exception. When opened, a fitted interior and leather writing surface are revealed. Excellent condition. Circa 1790.
