This impeccable George II-period silver salver was presented to Michael Lawrence Haider, chairman and chief executive of Standard Oil of New Jersey, once the world's biggest oil company. This antique salver was given almost certainly circa 1969 upon Haider's retirement. Crafted by respected English silversmith John Robinson II, this elegant salver features an understated shell and scroll border, and is engraved with the leafy-mantled arms of Manning with Boys in pretence. Raised on four pad feet this stunning plate is presented in a later fitted purple velvet-lined faux leather case, the lid adorned with a silverplate plaque with presentation inscription to Haider (1904-1986) from the Board of Directors of Standard Oil, which reads: "To M.L. Haider, Outstanding oilman whose ability and farsighted leadership contributed importantly to the growth and increased prosperity of Jersey and earned the deep respect and admiration of his colleagues. Board of Directors, Standard Oil Company (New Jersey)."
