This rare and elegant pair of George II-period silver candlesticks was crafted by renowned master silversmith Paul de Lamerie. Exhibiting the understated sophistication of the Georgian style, these lights are testament to de Lamerie's unmatched eye for detail and balance, from the gentle fluting and subtle petal motif of the stems to the graceful scalloping of the flared bases.

One of the leading English silversmiths in the first half of the 18th century, Paul de Lamerie was renowned for his technical proficiency and innovative designs using natural forms. Although his early works were simple, unornamented shapes, by the 1730s, he was one of the first English silversmiths to work in the ornate Rococo style. One of the most highly regarded silversmiths of his time, de Lamerie was patronized by the Goldsmith's Company and members of the British aristocracy such as Robert Walpole, first Earl of Orford, and Philip Dormer Stanhope, fourth Earl of Chesterfield. Today, de Lamerie's pieces are among the most extraordinary and recognized works of any silver collection. Many of his pieces are prized possessions of several museums and decorative art collections including London's Victoria & Albert Museum, the Royal Museum of Scotland (Edinburgh), London's Goldsmith's Company, the Art Institute of Chicago and the Frick Collection in New York.
