Four magnificent porcelain two-light candelabra by Samson & Sons of Paris, based on the celebrated Four Seasons figures created by Meissen. Each season is beautifully personified in a classical figure: Spring brings a wealth of flowers, Summer bursts forth with sheaves of wheat and vegetables, Autumn drinks merrily and carries a game rabbit, and Winter keeps warm next to a fire with a small repast of wine and fish. Each figure sits on a Rococo-style doré bronze pedestal with winding branches forming the arms of the candelabra, and smaller branches adorned with delicate porcelain flowers. Introduced by Meissen, representations of the Four Seasons were among the most popular and recognizable allegorical figures of all time. Translated by Samson & Sons, among the most famous and prolific ceramicists of the 19th and 20th centuries, they are a study in energy and movement. Pieces by Samson & Sons are considered collector's items today, and to find complete set of the firm's work is extremely rare.
Each figure features the Samson mark in blue under glaze.
