Item Details

  • Period:
    20th Century
  • Origin:
This lovely set of 10 teacup and saucers by the Royal Copenhagen Manufactory is crafted in the famed Flora Danica pattern. Each piece in this service features a different flowering plant, the hallmark of this splendid pattern. A branch-like handle and saw-tooth rim complete this exquisite set.

Johann Christoph Bayer, one of the most gifted artists of the late 18th century, first created the hand-painted floral motif accented with delicate gilding for Empress Catherine the Great of Russia. Each piece was hand-molded and hand-painted with carefully reproduced motifs from the Danish botanical encyclopedia entitled Flora Danica. Today, pieces of Flora Danica are exhibited in the Danish royal collections of Rosenborg Castle and Amalienborg Palace as well as in Queen Elizabeth II's private collection at Windsor Castle.

Each piece features Royal Copenhagen marks.

Circa 1992
