These five elegant reticulated porcelain plates reflect why Flora Danica is regarded as one of the most prestigious and stunning patterns ever created. From the delicate gilded lace-like patterns and carvings around the rim to the rich, hand-painted botanical plants and flowers at the centerpiece, these plates reflect the meticulous and refined artistic skill necessary to produce such exemplary pieces.
Remaining the crowning achievement of the European decorative arts for over 200 years, Flora Danica has become synonymous with royal prestige and is still given as official gifts by the Royal Danish Family and Danish government. The designs featured on these plates are based on George Christian Oeder's 1771 publication Flora Danica, an encyclopedia including 3,000 hand-colored copper plate prints depicting every wild plant known to exist in Denmark, including mosses, fungi, ferns and flowers. All plates have painted on the base the name of the genus and species of flowers depicted.
