This incredible claret jug by Fabergé is a study in balanced design. Crowned by a silver lid adorned with a lily pad motif, the body is crafted of intricate cut glass and bears a wonderful cane pattern, while its silver footed base is chased with a vine of ivy. The best jewelry companies in Russia created silver settings for crystal, and the world-famous firm of Carl Fabergé created the most outstanding designs. Using the latest technological achievements and the best traditions of the European jeweler's art, Fabergé created monumental pieces that attained great popularity both inside and outside Russia. Three similar Fabergé designs are housed in the Kent Collection, the world-class private collection of antique claret jugs.
The jug features the engraved initials "TWE" and Roman numerals "XXV" on the lid.
Hallmarked Moscow 1880, and in Cyrillic "K. FABERGÉ" beneath the Imperial Warrant, and with the 84 zolotiniks standard mark.
