This brilliant English intaglio cut glass pitcher is mounted in exquisite silver by Tiffany & Co. Crafted by the firm Stevens & Williams of Sturbridge, this baluster-form vessel is beautifully etched with poppy flowers, while the silver mount showcases a grapevine motif. Such stunning intaglio glass appealed to the prevalent Art Nouveau tastes of the early 20th century. These particular wares featured softened patterns cut into the glass with the use of a copper wheel, with a specialized blend of linseed oil and very fine emery powder used as the abrasive to give the finished piece the characteristic smooth appearance.

The pitcher bears the acid-etched mark of Stevens & Williams under the base. The silver rim bears the Tiffany & Co. mark with the date letter "C" for the directorship of Charles T. Cook, dating this pitcher between 1902 and 1907.

13 1/4" high
