This rare and outstanding Belleek covered basket is truly a wonder of porcelain craftsmanship. Boasting Belleek's famed nacreous glaze, this exceptional piece features a three strand base with delicately crafted and applied flowers on the bottom and lid, as well as grated porcelain handles. Considered one of the jewels in Belleek's crown, the covered basket is extremely difficult and costly to manufacture. Aside from the danger of collapse during the process, the lid and basket may shrink at different rates during firing, meaning they no longer fit, and both pieces must be destroyed. To find such a beautifully preserved specimen of this beloved style is truly extraordinary. A very similar basket is featured in Belleek: Irish Porcelain by Marion Langham.
