A metal deed box originally from the offices of the British Naval Department, formed and painted to appear as a leather-bound book. Important documents could be discreetly housed in this wonderfully deceptive box. A hinge on the side of the box allows for quick access. Excellent condition.
The book is marked "Admiralty Navy Documents" and dated "March 1870."
