Daum Nancy glass is among the best and most famous French cameo glass of the Art Nouveau period, from 1890 to 1920. Daum first produced glass in about 1872, manufacturing plate glass and tableware for the French market in Nancy. The cameo glass for which Daum is renowned was first produced by Auguste and Antonin Daum around 1890. Like Gallé, Daum was heavily influenced by nature which led to the production of many floral and scenic works. The firm became known for the quality of their acid-cut work with enamel and gold accents, and soon developed new techniques such as the incorporation of metal designed by Edgar Brandt, Louis Majorelle, and Andre Groult. Daum glass is highly desirable among collectors today, especially items of such singular artistry and quality as this enchanting vase.
