This rare and intriguing Daum Nancy cameo glass vase exhibits a stunning Virginia Creeper motif, complete with red berries indicative of the vine. The plant's verdant leaves, originally in vitrified powders, are acid-etched on the vibrant yellow-orange background and then carefully wheel-carved to create more texture. Daum artisans where extremely gifted wheel engravers, yet used the method only rarely. Very few pieces of this quality would have been produced, serving as models for industrial production. Unique, hand-crafted vases such as this are eagerly sought by collectors all over the world, and this rare vase is a prime example of the superb quality and detail for which the firm is known.

Daum glass was first produced in about 1872, manufacturing plate glass and tableware for the French market in Nancy. The cameo glass for which Daum is renowned was initially produced by Auguste and Antonin Daum around 1890. The firm soon developed new techniques such as the incorporation of metal which was designed by Edgar Brandt, Louis Majorelle, and Andre Groult. Like Gallé, Daum was heavily influenced by nature, which led to the production of many floral and scenic works.
