This exceptional Cartier bangle arm bracelet by jeweler Henri Lavabre is a fabulous example of the firm's interpretation of Persian motifs en vogue during the 1930s. Crafted of beautiful 18K gold with a slight bombé profile, this bracelet is covered in an exceptionally detailed chased and engraved hunting scene of stylized stags and hounds amongst flowering trees, a pattern presumably inspired by Louis Cartier's extensive collection of Persian manuscripts and miniatures. Cartier's Persian works sparked an interest in the arts of the Near East as well as a renewed desire for gold.
Henri Lavabre's workshop was entrusted to hand-craft many important commissions for Cartier between 1906 and the late 1930s, including famed socialite Daisy Fellowes' Hindu Collar. In fact, a gold case of similar design to the gold arm bracelet featured here was created by special order for Virginia Vanderbilt in 1932.
The arm bracelet is signed "Cartier Paris" with the number "L2535." French assay mark and a partial maker's mark for Henri Lavabre are visible. Accompanied by a Cartier certificate of authenticity, dated January 14, 2002.
