This exceptional nightlight by Italian sculptor Guiseppe Joseph D'Aste depicts a young boy and his canine companion tossing a ball, which is actually a cleverly disguised light bulb. Set upon a base of striking Breccia marble, the figure exhibits a moving sense of playfulness.

D'Aste was active circa 1905-1935 and worked mainly in portrait and figural sculptures, showing a marked talent for portraying children and animals. He frequently exhibited at Salons in Italy and France during the 1920s.
