This striking outstanding bronze sculpture of Napoleon is the work of Italian sculptor Renzo Colombo, this exceptional piece depicts the emperor in his familiar military garb. An eagle clutching a double-ended torch, a classic symbol of honor and courage, is placed below him. Set upon a plinth of rare Verde Patricia marble, this bust truly captures the proud bearing of the famed emperor. Born in Milan, Colombo was a student of the Académie de Florence. He exhibited for a few years at the Paris Salon, showing several classically-inspired plaster busts, including the bust upon which this remarkable bronze is based.

The eagle was a symbol chosen by Napoleon himself as an emblem of the new era in France. A traditional symbol of Imperial Rome, the eagle is a central figure in Napoleon's coat of arms, and was placed at the top of the shaft of every flag in the Napoleonic army the day after Napoleon's coronation.
