This outstanding brass-bound mahogany dressing case by Wells & Co. displays craftsmanship of the utmost quality. Lined in velvet, the case contains everything a gentleman would need to be well-groomed, including containers and crystal bottles topped with sterling silver, a shaving brush, straight razors and sharpening strap, and a manicure set. The lid also conceals a wood-framed mirror. The case itself was fashioned with extreme care, with brass decorating the cover in an understated foliate motif. Fitted with a Bramah lock, famed for their resistance to tampering, this case was clearly made with special attention to detail and no concern for cost. Truly a remarkable and rare find.
The cover features a brass plaque engraved "J.H.D-EGVILLE A SON AMI LOUIS LABORIE", and the sterling covers are engraved with the initial B. An inner gilt tooled leather cover is embossed "WELLS & CO. MANUFACTURERS, 34 COCKSPUR STREET, LONDON". Sterling silver items feature various maker's and date marks.
