This remarkable Georgian tea caddy is crafted of striking blonde tortoiseshell and accented with ivory, two of the most luxurious materials of the 18th and 19th centuries. In this caddy, the opulence of the tortoiseshell is off set with a cleaner shape and more restrained decoration, as large panels are perfectly matched on all sides. This beautiful caddy also holds two interior compartments, each fitted with an original tortoiseshell lid with turned ivory handles and featuring foil lining in near perfect condition.

Tea caddies are extremely popular with collectors, and caddies of rare tortoiseshell are especially prized, for they are among the scarcest and most luxurious examples produced. A prime example of a Georgian piece, this caddy demonstrates the understated elegance of a well proportioned form.
