This exceptional Battersea Bilston enameled patch box is beautifully decorated with a hand-painted classical scene of a dove and urn with the phrase "Trifles shew respect." Patch boxes such as this were used in the 18th century as receptacles for beauty patches, taffeta cosmetic applications that were especially popular in the court of Louis XV of France.
