Two putti frolic on this exceptional vine-covered bronze vase by French sculptor Auguste Moreau (1834-1917). An exceptional example of the Art Nouveau style, this vase is cast of lacquered gilt bronze and is set upon a base of rare red marble. Born into an artistic family, Auguste studied under Mathurin Moreau, and went on to establish himself as one of the most respected sculptors of the Art Nouveau period. Moreau exhibited extensively at the Paris Salon where he received a medal and at the Paris Exposition where he received a Gold Medal in 1900 for excellence in sculpture. This wonderful vase is a superlative example of this important artist's work.
