Item Details

  • Period:
    20th Century
  • Origin:
The splendor and elegance of Art Deco design is beautifully illustrated by this fine French table and chairs. Crafted of luxurious rosewood and mahogany, the table boasts a playing surface of soft suede bordered with rare Madagascar ebony. On each side, an ivory-knobbed drawer flips out, perfect for storing poker chips, a cocktail or that extra ace! The solid splats and lushly upholstered seats of the four matching chairs make this a perfect set. Striking and progressive, Art Deco was a popular international design movement from 1925 until 1939, affecting the decorative arts such as architecture, interior design, and industrial design, as well as visual arts such as fashion, painting, the graphic arts and film. This movement was, in a sense, an amalgam of many different styles and movements of the early 20th century, including Neoclassical, Constructivism, Cubism, Modernism, Bauhaus, Art Nouveau, and Futurism. Its popularity peaked in Europe during the Roaring Twenties and continued strongly in the United States through the 1930s. Although many design movements have political or philosophical roots or intentions, Art Deco was purely decorative. Just as it was then, this style is still seen as elegant, functional, and modern today. Circa 1920 Table: 29" wide x 29" deep x 29 3/4" high Chairs: 19" wide x 18" deep x 32" high
