This rare and important silver tablespoon was created by Boston's most famous patriot-silversmith, Paul Revere Jr. Crafted the same year he made his legendary midnight ride, this remarkable piece of silver boasts an elegant curvilinear form and delicately engraved wrigglework borders. Renowned for his work in the Georgian and English Neoclassical styles, this spoon is exemplary of Revere's astonishing skill and artistry.

This spoon bears the initials "GG" for Gardiner Greene (1753-1832), a socially prominent Boston and Guyana-based merchant and cotton planter. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Greene first travelled to Guyana in 1774 at the age of twenty-one, quickly growing his mercantile and planting empire.
