A captivating French mystery lady clock of a Classical bronze female figure draped in a partially revealing toga is of incomparable craftsmanship, by master clock maker, A.R. Guilmet. The mechanism and pendulum are suspended from the outstretched arms of the bronze statuette. The movement of the clock is contained behind the face at the top and the figure in effect "swings" the pendulum. The decorative bronze fixture at the bottom balances the entire clock and movement. This timepiece is a triumph of the celebrated artisan who first displayed his beguiling mystery clocks at the Paris Exhibition of 1878. A.R.Guilmet is one of the foremost names in the creation of exceptional French mystery clocks. He was granted a French patent or "brevet" for the mystery clock in 1867, which ran for fifteen years for a "Pendule à marche mystérieuse."
