A stunning silver trophy presented to the 1970 winner of the Jersey Derby, the celebrated thoroughbred Personality. Crafted by British firm Carrington & Company, the trophy is comprised of a silver six-paneled bowl, decorated in the Dutch style with caryatid handles, fleur-de-lis accents and a single Tudor rose at its center, atop an inscribed silver plinth and marble base. Two sterling rings encircle the marble base for a dramatic effect. Hosted at the famous Garden State Park, the Jersey Derby was among the signature horse races in the United States. The trophy's winner, Personality, was a surprising able competitor in 1970. He was owned by Mrs. Ethel D. Jacobs, the leading owner of thoroughbred horses for three years, and the wife of Hirsch Jacobs, a well-respected Hall of Fame trainer. Thanks in part to his win at the Jersey Derby, Personality was named American Horse of the Year in 1970.
