This spectacular German two-handed sword is outstanding in size and rarity. Measuring almost six feet in length, this massive weapon is equipped with an impressive double-edged blade, large ring guards enclosing rolled fleur-de-lis, and a grip that retains its original leather covering with decorative copper nails. Sharp, downward curved elements called lugs allow the warrior who wields this sword to inflict extra damage on an enemy. Knights, soldiers in service to a lord or king, were the elite warriors of Europe for centuries. A sword of this size would have been made for someone with a great deal of physical strength, and would have certainly helped to make him a formidable opponent. To find its like in such wonderful condition today is truly outstanding.
