The Chrysanthemum pattern was introduced in 1878 and patented on September 21, 1880 (patent no. 11968) by Charles T. Grosjean, the head of Tiffany's Prince Street silverworks and one of the most influential smiths in the company's history. Initially titled Indian Chrysanthemum, the pattern quickly gained favor among Tiffany's growing upper-class clientele. That the pattern was among the most expensive offered seemed to have little bearing on its overall popularity and success.
