This spectacular krater vase from the famed Meissen Porcelain Manufactory displays colorful Greek-inspired decorations of the utmost quality. Modeled by Ernst August Leuteritz, this classically formed vessel features an incredible continuous scene of a bacchanalia in full swing, with revelers both making and enjoying the fruit of the vine. Intricate gold designs highlight both the incredible spectrum of colors and the elegant shape of the vase. In ancient Greece, krater vases were used to mix water and wine. This particular, low-handled form is known as a calyx krater, and dates back to 525 BC. A fine example of Meissen’s incredible art, this vase is a rare find. A very similar vase is featured in The Book of Meissen by Robert E. R
