The Four Seasons Figurines by Meissen
These extremely rare and important Meissen porcelain figures represent the Four Seasons, and were first modeled by Friedrich Elias Meyer between 1746 and 1751. Each figure features symbols of the season and is joined by a helpful companion. Spring is represented by a maiden collecting a basket of flowers, Autumn is draped with bunches of grapes while a satyr enjoys a glass of wine, Summer gathers sheaves of wheat with a sickle, and Winter, wrapped in a fur-lined cloak, warms himself by a burning fire. The Four Seasons were among the most popular and recognizable allegorical figures created by Meissen and they took on many forms. It is extremely rare to find all four seasons as a matched set, especially in such excellent condition.
