This extremely rare and elaborate bronze table lamp by Austrian sculptor Anton Chotka, entitled “The Jewelry Seller”, is crafted of cold painted bronze of the highest detail. Two merchants present their wares in this life-like scene, amid carefully rendered items such as a fan, vessels, a colorful carpet and an artfully draped canopy. Elevated on a base of rare and elegant portoro macchia marble, this lamp was originally designed as a night light, illuminating the scene below in a darkened room. Anton Chotka (1875-1925) worked in the Bergmann workshop in Austria, and also sculpted animals. Similar lamps are featured in Bronze Sculptors & Founders, 1800-1930, Vol. 4, by Harold Berman.
