This rare Wedgwood vase, part of the Fairyland Lustre series, combines two of the most striking patterns ever to grace these amazing pieces, the Tree Serpent and the Torches motifs. In it, a stealthy snake slithers up a tree, making straight for a nest of helpless chicks, while in the background, two flickering torches light the stepped way toward a glimmering white palace. This piece is particularly remarkable in that, although the Torches design does feature a very similar snake, Tree Serpent does not include the lighted stairs or palace.
