An important George III teapot crafted by the legendary Paul Storr bearing the family crest of the Viscount Downe, John Heathcote. Its refined Neoclassical form illustrates Storr’s remarkable range as a silversmith. His ability to execute refined pieces such as this example, as well as his more sumptuous Regency pieces, demonstrates Storr’s mastery of the silver medium and the far-reaching influences of his body of work.
The teapot is enhanced by its original ivory handle and bears the inscription “Viscount Dawne 1883.”
A similar pot was part of the Lillian and Morrie Moss collection, as seen in The Lillian and Morrie Moss Collection of Paul Storr Silver, published in 1972, pages 156-157, pl. 100.
