This exquisite pair of cabinets crafted by master ébéniste Paul Sormani is based on the model by André-Charles Boulle, the original of which was ordered by Louis XIV in 1700 to decorate the Louvre. These elegantly crafted cabinets feature a decorative type of marquetry in which brass, pewter, and bronze are cut and pierced into elaborate floral and curving designs on a tortoiseshell and ebony veneer. Originally a 10th-century Italian process, this technique was perfected by Boulle in the 17th century so much so that the process now bears his name. The cabinets sit atop gilt bronze feet with twisted channeling and boast griotte marble tops. Both have single front doors that illustrate a resplendent flowered vase marquetry paired wit
