This exceptionally rare set of 12 mahogany dining chairs clearly illustrates the quiet grace and delicacy characteristic of George Hepplewhite's unique style. The two armchairs and ten side chairs feature a slender hoop back and well-designed pierced splat skillfully balanced by an upholstered seat. Coupled with Hepplewhite's distinctive tapered legs, the chairs achieve a stately sense of harmony. Although there are no pieces of furniture made by Hepplewhite or his firm known to exist, he gave his name to an exceptional style of light, elegant furniture that influenced furniture design well into the 19th century.
