This rare George III silver tea caddy evokes the exotic origins of tea. Rich engraving, simulating planks and pseudo-Chinese characters, reflects 18th century Europe's enthusiasm for treasures from the Far East. Silver chest-form tea caddies such as this one are quite rare, as most chest-form caddies were usually made of wood. The push-button latch also greatly distinguishes this caddy from its contemporaries. Maker's mark SW on bottom and on lid.
