A phenomenal pair of 19th-century Irish wing chairs crafted of mahogany, boasting richly detailed carving of the highest order. The chair rests upon ball-and-claw feet and is patterned with shells, acanthys leaves and masks. The extreme socio-economic polarity that existed in Ireland resulted in a large population of poor and a small percentage of elite, with virtually no known middle class. Since few could afford such exceptional furnishings, not many were ever created, making these chairs an exceptional find.
